In September 2017 JSE listed company Alviva Holdings Ltd announced that it’s subsidary, Solareff (Pty) Ltd, had acquired a 75% stake in GridCars (Pty) Ltd. GridCars director Winstone Jordaan retains a 25% shareholding in the company.

The acquisition of Gridcars formed a key element of Alviva’s renewable energy business strategy as Alviva believe that growing a network of charge points in South Africa will be the enabler of a carbon-free transport system.

“As a leading Solar PV specialist, we are excited to be expanding into green mobility. Our investment will enable GridCars to reach critical mass and scalability required to lead the industry and roll out a network of EV charging stations across the country which will be the enabler of a carbon free transport system for South Africa” says Solareff MD Jaco Botha.

The Solareff investment provides a significant boost to the GridCars balance sheet – providing GridCars with the critical mass to scale up quickly and move far beyond what was possible as a small start-up enterprise.
